In accordance with the latest statistics, investment of 75.23 billion Yuan RMB has been completed in Chinese paper industry during the January-August period of 2009, accounting for 24.1% annual growth. Meanwhile, the volume of Chinese paper and paperboard production from January-August of 2009 reached 59,467,000 tons, with 8.3% annual growth rate. The monthly production in August of 2009 alone amounted to 8,303,000 tons, increased by 18.8 percent compared with the year before and 6.9% in comparison with previous month, the figures indicating the normalization of Chinese paper and pulp market and recovery of business confidence from the shadow of global financial crisis. After over a decade’s speedy development, China has already outgrown the shortage of productive supply; in some product category its production surpassed its consumption. But measured by international standard, its consumption level is low, only 70 kg per Chinese person comparing to 200 kg average consumption per person in 19 other countries. With the reserved 6% GDP growth rate to calculate, by the year 2020 the production capacity of Chinese paper industry should reach 160,000,000 tons to satisfy the market need then, almost double the current production. Continuation of sufficient investment, technology renovation, raw material supply, and win-win interaction with the world market will play significant roles in further development of Chinese paper industry.
